Historians continue to debate the precise moment when Christianity established itself as a new religion, apart and distinct from Judaism however, shortly after the death and resurrection of Jesus (Nisan 14 or 15), the Jerusalem church is founded as the first Christian church with about 120 Jews and Jewish Proselytes.
Jesus was in fact a Jew. What's striking is not so much that he was a Jew but that the gospels make no pretense that he wasn't. The gospels don't even have a sense that he came to found a new religion, an idea completely foreign to all the gospel text. where it turns out that Christianity becomes something other than Judaism and as a result, Jesus in retrospect is seen not as a Jew, but as something else, as a founder of Christianity. But, of course, he was a Jew.
